Industry Sessions and Activities Announced for the Meeting in AspenSeptember 13, 2007 - 9:35 PM
Aspen/Snowmass, CO -- It's that time of year again as Aspen/Snowmass is set to host The Meeting, October 4-7, a weekend celebration of ski and snowboard films, industry leaders and an unabashed good time. "Our movie lineup this year is fantastic and our attendees and panelists make this the most promising Meeting to date," said John Rigney, vice president sales & events, Aspen Skiing Company . "If this doesn't get everyone fired up for the snow to start flying, I don’t know what will." Key players from the ski and snowboard industry s cheduled to attend include Seth Morrison, Tanner Hall, Mitch Reed, Sage Cattabriga-Alosa, TGR's Dirk Collins, Poor Boyz Productions' Johnny DeCesare, athletes and producers, Chad Otterstrom and Kyle Clancy, Red Bulls' Stephen "Stix" Neilson, Target's Troy Michels and many other athletes and producers of the 12 films being screened. In addition to the impressive line-up of ski and snowboard movies, The Meeting's industry sessions will be expanded from the single Meeting, to a series of industry-related discussions throughout the weekend. This year there will be individual Meetings with leaders speaking on the following topics: Snowsports Competition - Every season the winter event calendar gets thicker with more competitions and changing formats. Existing events are continually evolving and new events take a shot at breaking through. A panel will discuss the athletic competition landscape and how an event becomes a success, and more importantly, stays fresh. Sponsorship - Sponsorship supports the livelihood of so many in the snow sports industry. This session will discuss integrating action sports properties and projects with Fortune 500 companies. This will give an inside look at what top companies are looking for when entering the action sports landscape. Music Licensing - Soundtracks for films dramatically impact the final product. The music industry has been shaken and turned upside down in recent years, perhaps making it more challenging for filmmakers. This session will offer a music industry update as well as a "Licensing 101" for the group. (Meetings are by invite only and credentialing is required for all attendees. More details to come soon.) And after the work is done, watch for Aspen's world renowned nightlife open to all. The event will kick-off with a party hosted by D&E Ski and Snowboard Shop at Belly Up Thursday night after the NEPSA Video & Art Awards. Parties will also go off following each headlining film throughout the weekend. (More details to come.) And if the films and parties are not enough, The Meeting will also host other fall activities throughout the area. The weekend will be filled with mountain biking, golf, hiking and other activities before the snow settles in (frost has already made an appearance). Also, in partnership with Aspen Art Museum, premiering at the NEPSA A wards and remaining on display throughout the weekend at the Wheeler Opera House, will be an art exhibition by Evan Hecox. Hecox, a Colorado native, who in addition to the hundreds of skateboard graphics he has created over the past decade, creates drawings, paintings, prints and installations based upon his observations of the urban environment.
