Copper to Host Fundraising Event to Benefit Canine Partners of the Rockies
July 17, 2005 - 5:54 AM
By COskiing News
COPPER MOUNTAIN, Colorado — Copper Mountain will host the 4th annual Dog Daze of Summit to benefit the Canine Partners of the Rockies (CaPR), Aug. 27-28, in the Village at Copper. Guests will enjoy a variety of activities for families and dogs including professional demonstrations, exciting dog competitions, a silent auction and more throughout the weekend. In addition, guests can find dog-friendly lodging options at Copper.
Registration for Dog Daze events is $15 and includes entry into the Daze Parade and either the Agility Challenge or West Lake Wonderdog jumping competition. All entrants are registered for a grand prize drawing for a Rocky Mountain Super Pass to Copper Mountain and Winter Park resorts for the 2005-2006 season. Additional prizes will be awarded throughout the event for dogs performing the best tricks, the closest owner and dog look-alikes, most creative pet costume and other categories.
Dog Daze demonstrations will focus on agility, bird dogs, search and rescue dogs, flyball and presentations by the CaPR service dogs. Dog activities available for all include bobbing for tennis balls, paw painting, a dog brushing booth and dog friendly hikes. On Saturday, join the silent auction from 10:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. featuring more than 100 various items, or, treat yourself and your best friend to the Canine Wine and Dine Dinner at 7 p.m. at Copper. On Sunday, enjoy more demonstrations, workshops and the K9 Extreme Mountain Race to benefit the League for Animals and People of the Summit (LAPS).
"Dog Daze is a fun, two-day event for families and their dogs, and it benefits a worthy cause," said Janet Bayless, executive director of Canine Partners of the Rockies. "Copper Mountain offers a fantastic setting for Dog Daze of Summit and we're pleased that we could present the event at this beautiful resort again this year. We look forward to seeing both visitors from around the Front Range as well as local residents at our dog-friendly event."
Attendees of Dog Daze may only bring one dog per person. Dogs must be on a leash no longer than six feet. All dogs must have current vaccinations and wear current ID and rabies tags. A copy of the proof of vaccinations is required for all dogs that enter the competitions or use the Dog Den daycare facility. Organizers of the event reserve the right to refuse entry to aggressive animals.
Canine Partners of the Rockies was formed in 2002 to raise and train highly skilled service dogs for people throughout Colorado with disabilities other than blindness. After a comprehensive training program which takes approximately two years, CaPR dogs provide assistance with daily living tasks, enabling their human partner to become more independent and confident. There are currently 23 puppies, including breeds such as Labrador and Golden Retriever and Standard Poodle, in the program. For more information, log on to www.caninepartnersoftherockies.org.
Copper Mountain is a world-class, multi-season resort nestled between the Ten Mile and Gore mountain ranges just 75 miles from downtown Denver in the scenic Rocky Mountains. Throughout the Summer season, Copper Mountain offers a wealth of activities for the entire family including free scenic chairlift rides, free disc golf, golf, free guided nature hikes, the quad power jump, Colorado's largest outdoor climbing wall, go-karts, horseback rides, mountain biking, road cycling, hiking, paddle boating, fly fishing and more.
In addition, The Village at Copper is alive with a wealth of festivals and activities, providing abundant memory-making opportunities for all who visit. The pedestrian-only village has been designed to accentuate Copper's natural beauty. A variety of shops, restaurants and social gathering places allow guests to recreate during the day and celebrate into the night.
